Chapter twelve

Tasha

Chance shows up to take me home from the diner, just like he said he would...and I'm swooning all over again.

It feels like we're already an item as we make our way from the diner to my apartment, the motel room entirely forgotten. As far as I'm concerned, Chance is welcome in my bed anytime--even if I don't quite know how to tell him, or if I should tell him just yet.

He smiles at me when I get into the passenger seat, and he starts up the engine as I buckle my seatbelt. The sun is still shining overhead, a few more hours of daylight before the summer night takes over.

"I wanna take you out," he says. "Where's a good place to eat around here?"

I laugh softly. "Well...the Snowcap's the only restaurant in town, other than your sister's bakery."

"So what's out of town?"

I look down at my outfit--just a white t-shirt and jean shorts, nothing fancy. I'm sweaty from a long day working at the restaurant, and my hair is up in a practical ponytail. "Are you gonna take me like this?"

"Why not?" he says. "You're gorgeous."

I chew on my lip. "Hmm...well, there's a little brewery about half an hour out of town, gorgeous view of the mountains. How about that?"

"Sounds great," he says. "Lead the way."

I direct Chance down the winding roads that lead to the brewery, and we chat about everything and nothing as the scenery changes from small town to open fields and rolling hills. As we pull into the parking lot, my heart flutters at the sight of the stunning view--the sun is just beginning to dip below the mountains, and the colors of the sky are a vibrant mix of oranges and pinks.

We order a couple of pints and sit outside on the patio, taking in the view and enjoying the warm summer breeze. Chance's hand brushes against mine as we clink glasses in a toast, and my skin is electric at the contact.

"I can't believe how lucky I am," he says, his eyes meeting mine. "Meeting you like this...it's like fate or something."

I feel myself blushing, and I take a sip of my beer to hide my face.

But it's because my heart is racing...

...because I want to be with him.

The sun finally dips below the horizon, casting long shadows across the brewery's patio. The view of the mountains blends with the pink and orange sky, creating an ethereal moment that takes my breath away. We move our chairs closer together to look at the view as we let our food settle, switching to water for the drive home.

Chance leans in closer to me, his eyes never leaving mine. The tension between us is palpable, and I can hardly contain the desire that's been building inside of me since the moment we met.

"You're not gonna regret this, are you?" he asks, his voice low and husky.

I look up at him, my eyes heavy with desire. "I don't think I could ever regret being with you," I say, my voice shaking with barely contained need.
